30 Best Animation Companies for Business in 2026

Animation companies specialize in very different kinds of work. Some focus on 2D explainer videos for SaaS and B2B companies. Others build commercials, character animation, motion graphics, corporate videos, or 3D product work. The right studio depends on the video you need, the visual style, and the way you want the project to be produced.

Those specialties matter when you compare portfolios. A commercial animation studio, a technical explainer team, and a 3D production company solve different creative and production problems, even when the finished videos have a similar length.

I have worked in animation and film production for more than 25 years, including the last 14+ years producing explainer and marketing videos at Yum Yum Videos. During that time, our team has created more than 1,000 animated videos for startups, mid market companies, and Fortune 500 brands.

For this 2026 list, I reviewed 30 animation companies with different specialties, team sizes, production models, and price ranges. The list includes 2D animation companies, commercial animation studios, corporate animation companies, small animation companies, and larger production teams.

How We Selected These Animation Companies

I used the same practical criteria throughout the list:

  • Portfolio: I looked at recent finished work to judge design, animation, storytelling, and consistency. A studio’s portfolio usually tells you more than a services page.
  • Specialization: I identified the type of work each team appears to do most often, including 2D animation, motion graphics, character work, commercials, corporate video, and 3D.
  • Client history: I looked for real business projects and enough context to understand the audiences and industries each studio has worked with.
  • Production process: I checked how clearly each company explains the path from brief and script to design, animation, revisions, and delivery.
  • Reviews and reputation: When public feedback was available, I checked sources such as Clutch and DesignRush and compared those reviews with the work shown in the portfolio.

Team size is included as context. A small studio can handle enterprise work, while a larger production company may be better equipped for several campaigns, live action shoots, or multiple projects running at the same time.

1. Yum Yum Videos

Experience: 14+ years Team size: Small production team Pricing: From approximately $8,000 for custom animation Selected clients: Amazon, McKesson, Walmart, American Express, Vodafone, Red Bull

I co-founded Yum Yum Videos more than 14 years ago, so I have direct access to the production data behind this entry. I can give you information that a public portfolio does not show.

We have produced more than 1,000 animated videos, with 2D character animation and explainer videos at the center of our work. Our process covers research, script, storyboard, art direction, illustration, animation, voice over, and sound. Clients review the project at several points before the next production stage begins.

One useful example is Accelerant. We produced nine videos for the insurtech company between 2021 and 2024. Accelerant later went public in 2025 at a valuation of about $6.4 billion. The IPO was Accelerant’s result, not an outcome we attribute to the videos. What the project demonstrates is continuity: the same animation team supported the company across several years, messages, and pieces of content.

You can see the complete project in our Accelerant case study.

If you are comparing a broader animated video company rather than a specialist studio for one style, our homepage shows the range of work, industries, and production options we handle.

Animation Company vs. Animation Studio: Is There a Difference?

Companies use the terms animation company, animation studio, animation agency, and animation production company interchangeably. The more useful distinction is the production model.

Some studios keep writing, design, and animation inside one team. Others use a core creative team and bring in freelancers for specific stages. Larger animation production companies may also offer live action, localization, post production, paid media, or several campaigns at once.

Ask who will actually work on your project and which parts are produced in house.

What Type of Animation Company Do You Need?

2D Animation Company

A 2D animation company is usually the right place to start for explainer videos, character animation, educational pieces, and many corporate projects. 2D can combine characters, icons, interfaces, typography, and motion graphics without the production requirements of full 3D.

You can see more examples in our 2D animation guide.

Commercial Animation Studios

Commercial animation studios emphasize campaign concepts, art direction, brand identity, and high impact visual execution. They may also mix animation with live action.

This is the category I would compare for advertising campaigns, launch films, social ads, and brand pieces.

Corporate Animation Companies

Corporate animation companies handle stakeholder review, B2B messaging, technical subjects, training, internal communications, and brand compliance.

For these projects, production process matters because several people may need to approve the script, storyboard, and final animation.

Small Animation Companies

A small animation company can give clients direct access to the producer, writer, art director, or animator working on the project. That direct contact can simplify communication, while pricing still depends on specialization, scope, and production quality.

Our separate guide to small animation studios goes deeper into that specific category.

How Much Do Animation Companies Charge?

Animation pricing varies widely by style, length, complexity, and production model.

For our 2026 pricing research, we contacted 125 video production companies and animation studios. 76 responded, and 61 supplied usable quotes for a custom 60 second animated explainer. Prices ranged from $2,800 to $27,000, with a median of $9,680.

That spread explains why two animation companies can quote very different prices for a video with the same runtime.

A template based production and a custom character animation do not involve the same amount of writing, design, illustration, revision, or animation work.

Our animation cost guide breaks down current pricing by production tier and animation style.

How to Choose an Animation Company

I would compare five things before signing a proposal.

Look at Recent Work

Ask for two or three projects close to your intended style, industry, or audience. A large portfolio is useful, but a relevant portfolio is more useful.

Ask Who Writes the Script

For an explainer or corporate video, strong animation cannot fix a weak script.

Ask whether the studio writes in house, uses freelancers, or expects the client to provide final copy.

Understand the Review Process

Find out which stages you approve and how many revision rounds are included.

At Yum Yum Videos, the main client review points happen across script, storyboard, visual direction, illustration, animation, and sound. Our explainer video production process explains those stages in detail.

Compare the Full Quote

A lower initial price can change quickly if voice over, custom illustration, source files, extra revisions, localization, or music are billed separately.

Compare deliverables, not just the number at the bottom of the proposal.

Check the Timeline

A custom animated explainer typically takes several weeks. Our standard process is usually 6 to 8 weeks, while some rush projects can fit into 3 to 4 weeks when the scope and feedback schedule allow it.

Common Animation Styles Offered by Animation Companies

Motion Graphics

Motion graphics animate typography, icons, charts, interfaces, and other graphic elements. They work well for software, data, financial products, and technical systems where the message centers on information rather than character performance.

See our motion graphics animation work for more examples.

2D Character Animation

2D character animation uses people or character based situations to represent the audience, problem, or product experience. It works well when behavior, emotion, or a customer journey is part of the message.

Whiteboard Animation

Whiteboard animation reveals the visual explanation progressively. We use it most often for educational narratives and topics that benefit from a slower, step by step presentation.

Our whiteboard animation guide explains the style in more detail.

Mixed Media

Mixed media combines animation with photography, live action, 3D, typography, or other visual material. It works when a project needs real people or products alongside animated explanation.

Common Questions About Animation Pricing, Timelines, and Team Structure

What does an animation company do?

An animation company can handle some or all of the animated video production process: research, scriptwriting, storyboard, art direction, illustration, animation, voice over, sound design, editing, rendering, and delivery. Larger companies may also offer live action, localization, subtitling, or campaign production.

How much does one minute of animation cost?

For a custom 60 second animated explainer, our 2026 study of 61 usable market quotes found prices from $2,800 to $27,000, with a median of $9,680. More advanced 3D, broadcast work, or complex commercial production can cost more.

How long does an animation company take to make a video?

A custom animated video commonly takes several weeks. At Yum Yum Videos, our normal timeline is 6 to 8 weeks. Simpler or rush projects can be faster, while detailed 3D or projects with many approval layers can take longer.

What is the difference between a 2D animation company and a 3D studio?

A 2D animation company builds scenes with flat illustrated assets, characters, typography, and motion graphics. A 3D studio may add modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, simulation, and 3D rendering. Those additional production stages usually affect both timeline and cost.

Are animation companies and cartoon companies the same thing?

The terms overlap, but cartoon companies usually suggests character or entertainment focused animation. Business animation companies may also produce motion graphics, product explainers, corporate videos, training content, UI animation, and mixed media.

Can an animation company handle commercial and corporate work?

Yes. Check the portfolio first. Commercial animation studios often emphasize advertising and campaign creative, while corporate animation companies may have more experience with B2B messaging, internal review, training, and technical subjects.

What to Ask Before Hiring an Animation Company

If I were comparing three animation companies for the same brief, I would ask each one for a relevant recent project, the production schedule, revision policy, complete scope, and the names or roles of the people who will work on the video.

Then I would compare those answers next to the price.

The best fit is the company whose production model matches the job you actually need done.
